Parent and Family Members of Incoming Students

At Buffalo State University, we recognize that it takes a village to support an incoming student as the transition to college from high school can be challenging. When we welcome new students to Buffalo State, we are also extending a warm welcome to the parents and family members who have helped get our students to this point in their life. As your student begins their transition, there are important ways that you can continue to support them! This page was designed to assist you in finding helpful on campus supports and resources.

If you have any questions as you are reviewing the links and information please feel free to email us at orientation@buffalostate.edu or call us at 716-878-4618 during business hours. Also, don't forget to check out our top tips for parents and families below.

Welcome to Buffalo State University!

Our Top Tips for Parents and Family Members

1

Submit your Immunization Records to the Weigel Health Center

New students should visit the Weigel Health Center website for a list of required immunizations and instructions on how to submit your proof. (We suggest completing this step as soon as your deposit clears).

2

Make sure your Student has Registered for an Orientation Session

Students will have access to register for their orientation session through their student portal. Students will receive an email/text to register as the event gets closer. If you wish to join your student, you can! For an additional cost, we offer a parent and family member program that runs concurrently with the new student program. You can register at the same time as your student. If your student has trouble logging into their student portal, please email us at orientation@buffalostate.edu for assistance.

3

Have Your Student Set Up their Buffalo State Email

Buffalo State University's official form of communication is through the institution's email. This should be checked regularly by the student and should be set up at least 2-3 weeks prior to their orientation session. For assistance, please check out this helpful information from IT

4

Encourage Your Student to Make their Schedule

If your student is a first-year, they need to schedule a meeting with their academic advisor, as this will allow them to work with a knowledgeable professional to build their first-semester schedule. If your student is a transfer student, they can simply view the transfer student tutorial to learn more about registration.

(We suggest students complete this step ASAP after registering for orientation.)
